In a major development for the Nkopane Community in the Senqu Local Municipality, Public Works, Infrastructure and Human Settlements MEC Siphokazi Lusithi, announced that Nkopane Primary School is going to get a R48.5 million facelift.

During her visit to the school on 18 February 2025 MEC Lusithi introduced the contractor responsible for the work and participated in a symbolic sod-turning ceremony to officially begin the construction.

The project will include the construction of new classrooms, a Grade R block, a science laboratory/computer classroom, an administration block, ablution facilities, and water tanks. These improvements are aimed at providing a better learning environment for the students of Nkopane, ensuring they have access to quality education in a safe and supportive setting.

As part of her visit, MEC Lusithi also made a generous donation of sanitary towels and school bags to the students of Nkopane Primary School. This donation is aimed at addressing challenges faced by learners, especially young girls who often lack access to essential hygiene products. By providing these items, MEC Lusithi is helping to remove barriers to education, ensuring that all learners can attend school without disruptions.

Speaking at the event, MEC Lusithi highlighted the importance of investing in education and community development. “This project is about more than just improving the school’s physical infrastructure. It’s about empowering the future of our children. Education is the key to unlocking opportunities and transforming lives, and we are committed to creating environments that foster learning,” she said.

In response to the announcement, Thembile Langbooi, the principal of Nkopane Primary School, expressed his gratitude and excitement. “Today marks a turning point for the school, as we will soon have a newly constructed school with state-of-the-art facilities.

“The Nkopane community witnessed this milestone with great interest, as they are the direct beneficiaries of this project,” said Mr Langbooi.
