Contractors of the much-awaited Mqanduli Cluster Offices are racing against time to ensure that the project reaches its practical completion by the end of October 2025.
Robert Kudlacs, one of the project managers said this target will be realized “despite the weather-related delays” which occur from time to time.
“We are also busy dealing with utility coordination with Eskom so that we do not experience further delays, but rest assured practical completion will be realized by October this year,” said Kudlacs.
The project started on 15 August 2022, under Zibele Construction. It forms part of the Department’s plan to build one-stop shop Offices which house several government departments under one roof.
Kudlacs said the Department is “expecting that the Mqanduli office precinct will be a catalyst for bringing more development to Mqanduli area”.
The Department has similar office precincts in Maletswai (Themba Kojana) and Komani – the Komani Office Precinct. Also, under construction currently is Emaxesibeni Office Precinct in Emaxesibeni.
The Mqanduli offices will house four government departments, and they are Department of Education, the Department of Social Development, the Department of Corporative Governance and Traditional Affairs and the Department of Agriculture.
The project involves the construction of a new three-storey office block, comprising of civil & structural works (earthwork, foundations, slabs), electrical integration with grid, solar backup, and generator, HVAC and passenger lift installations.
