MEC Sipokazi Lusithi along with other Members of the Executive Council debated Premier Oscar Mabuyane’s State of the Province Address at Provincial Legislature in Bhisho during a two-day session recently.

The Premier’s address outlined the provincial government’s plans and key focus areas for the 2026/27 financial year which are aimed at improving the lives of people across the province.

During her contribution to the debate, MEC Lusithi highlighted the critical role that infrastructure development plays in driving economic growth and improving living conditions in communities.

MEC Lusithi also emphasised the importance of accountable leadership and strong cooperation between government departments. She said collaboration is necessary to ensure that development plans are successfully implemented and that communities benefit from government programmes.

“The SOPA debate is not only about reflecting on government plans, but about ensuring that our work brings real change to the lives of our people,” said MEC Lusithi. “Infrastructure development is central to building dignified communities, and we remain committed to delivering services that make a meaningful difference across the Eastern Cape,” she added.

The second day of the legislature sitting focused on the Premier’s formal response to the issues and concerns raised by Members of the Provincial Legislature during the first day of debate. This session allowed provincial leaders to further reflect on government strategies and discuss how these plans will translate into practical improvements for communities.

The discussions form part of the provincial government’s broader commitment to transparency and open governance. Platforms such as the SOPA debate provide an opportunity for leaders to review progress, address challenges, and strengthen programmes that promote economic growth and community development.

The Department continues to support the province’s development agenda by improving and maintaining public infrastructure across the Eastern Cape.
