The Alfred Nzo District Youth Forum has donated stationery to Cangci Technical High School in Mbizana. The initiative is aimed at supporting learners who aspire to be artisans and enhance their technical knowhow while promoting youth empowerment in the district.
Presentations made at the event held recently showcased employment opportunities for young people in the built industry, EPWP job opportunities available within DPWI as well as training prospects.
Briefing the learners about training prospects EPWP’s Innovation and Empowerment manager Mkhuseli Msongelwa said EPWP “is the government initiative aimed at reducing unemployment and poverty by providing temporary work opportunities and skills development. It focuses on community upliftment and employs people in various public projects, such as infrastructure development, social services and environmental initiatives.”
Addressing the learners, District’s ICT network controller Asavela Jubhela said these initiatives are vital in fostering a culture of learning, strengthening partnerships between schools and organizations like DPWI, and preparing the youth for future opportunities. “Education remains the key to unlocking youth potential,” said Jubhela.
She also encouraged learners to take advantage of these opportunities to advance their studies. The session was highly interactive, with learners asking questions and engaging with presenters. This created a collaborative atmosphere that encouraged dialogue and understanding between students and stakeholders.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks from the principal Zweli Njomi, who expressed gratitude to the department for availing such opportunities to so many learners at such critical time in their lives because “this has been a very informative session.
“We appreciate what the department has done. Today you have brought services closer to pupils who need them the most and that is commendable. Our people need this kind of encouragement as sometimes these opportunities miss them because on how impoverished in areas, they reside,” said Njomi.
Grade 12 learner Simiso Dlamini said: “I am so grateful for this opportunity to learn about bursaries and career prospect available to us. As a grade 12 learner I am excited to explore the possibilities and make informed decisions about my future. Thank you to Department of Public Works and Infrastructure for investing in our education and empowering us with the knowledge we need to succeed.”
Ziyanda Phangumso, the secretary of the youth forum said: “The presentation on bursaries and career opportunities was informative and inspiring. We look forward to working loosely with the department to ensure that our youth are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in their chosen careers.
