Honourable MEC Pemmy Majodina together with MTN Foundation visited schools in Ndofela community, Senqu Local Municipality, Ward one (1) as part of the MEC back to school campaign. The visit was to assist and encourage learners to study besides the challenges that hinders their education and appreciate the role of the educators.

The Hon MEC had started the campaign 5 years ago as part of her Social Responsibility programme by ensuring that a black child remains at school and is provided with quality education.  As the Hon MEC was addressing the learners she emphasized that she grew up without having shoes most of her childhood. “I know the pain of being in need of school shoes, therefore I will make sure that no child will go through the same bad experience as I did as a learner” she said.

Masakhane High School was amongst the chosen schools that received 15 bicycles for learners that travel far to and from school. The bicycles will remain the property of the school to be utilsed by other learners at a later stage. Three primary schools: Nxasana, Governer’s Drift, and Walaza received school bags together with a pair of shoes, water bottle, a lunchbox and notepads.

MTN Chairperson, Kusile Mntunzi-Hairwadzi, thanked the community of Ndofela for welcoming them and allowing them to give back to the community. She promised to give 50 more bicycles to Masakhane High School. “It is through education that the daughter of a peasant can become a Doctor, that the son of a Mine worker can become the head of the Mine, that a child of farm workers can become the President of a great nation” she quoted Former President Nelson Mandela, saying that they are determined and willing to assist the community of Ndofela by providing the schools with all which is required and necessary for the schools.
