    MEC MARAWU’S DISTRICT ROAD SHOW UNDERWAY

     As part of her District Roadshow Programme, Eastern Cape MEC for Transport, Roads and Public Works, Hon Thandiswa Marawu will host an information sharing session at O.R. Tambo Hall in Mthatha on 16 March 2013 at 09h00.

    MEC Tandiswa Marawu will be opening the N2 By-pass on Friday- 30 November 2012. This has been the most awaited for rejoinder that will effectively open the N2 to all motorist especially the fright transportation which had to travel the longer route to access the N6 from Bedford.

    Eastern Cape Disaster incident updates: Engineers on site to fix roads and bridges

    Having visited some of the roads affected by the recent disaster, we send our condolences to the families of those who passed away as a result of these disaster Incidents. Our hearts also go to the displaced families and those who homes have been destroyed by the disaster incidents.

     We welcome the joint effort by Councillors, South African Defence force, government engineers, municipal officials and disaster management teams to attend to the incidents that occurred in the past few days. Municipalities have reported their mopping up plans, which include fixing the damaged infrastructure such as toilets, homes and some community infrastructure. Read more »

    Former President Nelson Mandela’s vision of celebrating his birthday by doing something for needy communities has been taken on with gusto by the Department.

    To mark Madiba’s 94th birthday and Mandela Month, Roads & Public Works MEC, Ms Thandiswa Marawu and departmental staff members are renovating a number of community facilities in the Maletwai, Buffalo City Metropolitan and Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Municipal areas. Read more »

    The Eastern Cape Department of Roads & Public Works would like to announce the appointment of Mr. Sisanda George as a Spokesperson to MEC Thandiswa Marawu and of the Department.

    Mr. George has a degree in Communication from the University of Fort hare. His career began with a stint at the Daily Dispatch as an Investigative Journalist. He later joined the University of Fort Hare in the Division of Marketing and Communication as Communication Officer. Read more »

    The Department of Roads & Public Works (DRPW) invites the media to attend a Green Building & Roads Seminar. The seminar will explore the meaning of Green Buildings and Roads. It will further examine how an infrastructure department like DRPW can adapt to climate change and how its impact can be mitigated.

    Furthermore the seminar is intended to keep the debate alive on how can climate change be mainstreamed into government’s thinking and planning in developing infrastructure projects.

    It is the duty of DRPW to insulate its assets from all types of vulnerabilities.

  • bhisho revitalization & heritage month programme outline – 06 september 2011

    Transport, Roads & Public Works MEC Thandiswa Marawu joined by Arts & Culture Minister Paul Mashatile and Sport, Recreation, Arts & Culture MEC Xoliswa Tom will be leading a joined media briefing outlining issues that relate to service delivery, in particularly Bhisho Revitalisation Programme.

    MEC Marawu will give an account on progress with regards to the implementation of the Bhisho Revitalisation Programme since its launch in September last year. The MEC will also unveil future Bhisho Revitalisation projects. The Minister will give the media details on all liberation route sites in the Eastern Cape and MEC Tom will outline the roll-out programme for the Heritage Month.

    The brief programme for Tuesday, 06 September 2011 is intended to be as follows:

    *11h30 –12h45: Media briefing @ Qhasana Building – Roads & Public Work’s Head Office in Bhisho

    *13h00 – 13h30: Wreath laying by Minister Mashatile at the Bhisho Memorial Site in Bhisho.

    The media is invited to join the Minister and MEC’s for this occasion.
